The Grant Mosque and Spiral Minarate

The mosque was built at the time of the Khalifa Al Muatasim Billah 221:227 Higri and at the time of the Khalifa Al Mutawakil 232:247 Higr. The mosque became small for the increasing number of prayers so it was brought and built in the shape we have it now. The mosque has great walls built with bricks and gypsum. These walls include a rectangular coart. The mosque measures are 240m length and 160m width and what remains from the walls is about 10 meters and 2.65 meters thick. This walls is supported from the outside by 44 half cylendrical towers. The mihrab is situated in the middle of the southern wall and also there are 2 doors in the walls of the mosque. Where, the Spiral Minarate, which is 27m from the northern wall of the mosque and on the same axe of the northern door is a significant construction has a cunecal shape standing on a square base whis is 33m x 33m. The top of the Minarate can be reached by spiral staire cases 2.30m wide. The Spiral Minarate is 52m high.
